Shiny Toy Guns
When my father was a child, he and his six brothers each
had shiny toy guns and a holster made especially for each one of them
by their father in his home workshop. The dangers of shiny toy guns
were only realized in the past few decades and many changes emerged
on the market for shiny toy guns.
Despite the precautions that everyone takes to make obvious the difference
between shiny toy guns and actual guns sometimes the shiny toy guns
kids have can still be mistaken for real guns—especially older
models. When you are a collector of shiny toy guns, you may want to
look for the older kinds without the orange eyesore.
Unfortunately, the amount of violence to which children are exposed
creates an innocent and yet dangerous desire for toy guns, especially
shiny toy guns that look like the real thing. It is too soon for these
kids to understand the devastation that an accident with a real gun
can cause. When my brother was little, my parents did not allow him
to have too many toy weapons. Therefore he poured his energy into making
his own guns, swords and more. He would spray-paint his childishly designed
shiny toy guns with silver and all of a sudden, he had something like
the shiny toy guns that the rest of his friends had.
It is not that shiny toy guns are bad, but we must also emphasize to
our children what the difference is between shiny toy guns and real
guns. We must be sure they know the difference between pretending and
what is real and dangerous. When we can educate our children accordingly,
shiny toy guns are hours of fun!
