Toy Box
Cleaning up and making things tidy is a big part of what
children have to learn at a very early age. When there is a toy box
for your kids to drop their toys into—cleaning up is not so complicated.
A toy box makes for a tidy bedroom, child-care facility, or nursery
as well as teaching children the importance of putting away the toys
they have played with.
Every child should have a toy box at home, and toy boxes and toy bins
are an excellent way to keep the room looking nice—even the youngest
children will see it almost as a game to play. Of course, the best way
to motivate a child to clean up is to reward him or her. You can choose
how—most often in my day-care class I just ask: “who will
be my big helpers?” Then as I begin to clean up, I sing a “clean-up”
song, and usually they like to sing along too. When the children help
me I make sure to thank each one of them individually—not just
“thanks class.” I say: “Evan, what a good job helping!!!
And Libby thank you so much for helping too . . . we have so many good
helpers in this class!!”
Most importantly, a toy box can be the easiest solution for kids who
seem to dread organizing their toys and placing everything out in view.
Perhaps their toy box will not have the highest technology in organizing
features—but the room will become less messy and more pleasing
to the eye. Maybe they will just have to catch on to the organization
thing later on.
